Corpora/Simulacrum
May 17 - 25, 2025 | Tree House | Chicago, IL
Curated by Angelina Han & Elio Agustín
How does the narrative of the “living body” exist beyond flesh - within absence, within borders, within memory? In an era of digital abstraction, political displacement, and social alienation, our relationship to our bodies becomes increasingly fragmented. We are estranged not only from our own forms but from the landscapes in which we exist. Whether through the experience of exile, the constraints of identity, the performance of labor, or the shifting perception of the self, the body is a site of rupture and reconnection.
Where do we go when our bodies are no longer where we left them? How do we belong to a form that refuses to be static? If the body is continuously written and rewritten, then perhaps its truest state is one of fluidity—always shifting, never fully defined, yet persistently present.
[Corpora/Simulacrum] is an invitation for all artists to engage with the corpora as a mirror– a simulation– an individual body, a collective archive of gestures, movements, voices, and narratives, and an abyss in which we reflect our mortality upon. Reconcile this ever-changing state and permit ourselves to be free of certainty or definition.
This show case is currently in progress. We will be featuring 23 artists from Chicago and present different mediums or work, ranging from drawings, artist-books, paintings, sculpture, activated installations, experimental films, video works, and photography.
Opening reception will be held on May 17, 2025 from 2-7pm. Address will be announced on the date of the reception.
